The real thing. An open 4×4 gypsy takes you deep into the sanctuary's teak and dhak forest on one of eight tracking routes, with a forest guide reading pugmarks and alarm calls. Sightings are wild, unscripted and unforgettable.

Devalia Safari (Gir Interpretation Zone)
A 412-hectare fenced slice of the same forest, 12 km from Sasan. The whole Gir food chain lives inside — so sightings here are close to guaranteed. Short, easy and perfect if you have elders, small children or only half a day.

Devalia is the lighter, shorter option — same forest, higher sighting certainty, easier on elders and children.

How to reach
By train
Sasan Gir has its own railway station. Bigger options: Junagadh (~65 km) and Veraval (~45 km), both well connected to Ahmedabad and Rajkot.
By air
Keshod (~45 km) is the nearest airstrip. Diu (~110 km), Rajkot (~160 km) and Ahmedabad (~340 km) are the usual arrival airports.
By road
Smooth highway drive from Ahmedabad (approx. 7 hrs), Rajkot (approx. 3.5 hrs), Somnath (approx. 1.5 hrs) and Diu (approx. 2.5 hrs). We can arrange a cab too.
What to carry & forest rules
Carry this
Original photo ID for every guest (mandatory), printed or digital permit, earth-tone clothing, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, binoculars and a zoom lens. Mornings in winter are genuinely cold — carry a jacket.
Please don't
No bright colours or perfume, no plastic inside the park, no getting off the vehicle, no calling out to animals, no flash photography, no alcohol or smoking. Keep phones on silent.
Good to know
Names on the permit cannot be changed after booking, so send correct spellings. Sightings are wild and never guaranteed on the Jungle Trail — Devalia is the safer bet if you must see a lion.

Frequently asked questions
Will I definitely see a lion?
On the Gir Jungle Trail nothing is guaranteed — it is a wild sanctuary. That said, sighting rates are high, especially in the early morning slot. If a sighting matters more than the wilderness feel, add the Devalia zone, where lions live in a large fenced enclosure and are seen on almost every tour.
How far in advance should I book?
For weekends, holidays and the December–January peak, 30–45 days ahead. On normal weekdays 7–15 days is usually enough. Send us your dates and we'll tell you exactly what is still open.
What documents are needed?
Original photo ID for every guest — Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, voter ID or passport. Foreign nationals must carry a passport. Names on the permit must match the ID exactly and cannot be changed later.
How many people fit in one gypsy?
One permit covers a single vehicle with up to 6 adults and 2 children below 12. Larger groups are split across multiple vehicles — we arrange them to travel on the same route together.
Is the safari safe for children and senior citizens?
Yes. The vehicle is open but the route is controlled and the guide is trained. For very small children or guests with mobility issues, Devalia's shorter 45–60 minute tour is the more comfortable option.
When is Gir closed?
The sanctuary shuts every year from 16 June to 15 October for the monsoon breeding season. Devalia stays open through most of the year but is closed on Wednesdays.
Can I book on the spot after reaching Sasan?
A limited number of on-the-spot gypsy slots are released daily, and cancellations open up too. Rates are the same as advance booking. Call us before you travel and we'll check live availability for your date.
What is your cancellation policy?
Forest Department permit charges follow government rules and are largely non-refundable once issued. Our service and vehicle charges can usually be adjusted or refunded depending on how early you inform us — our desk will confirm your case in writing.
